The New BMW 3 Series

It must be that time of year again, because the new crop of BMW 3 series has just come in.

How many car guys live and die with these things? There’s a serious sub-set of our little world that begins and ends with the BMW 3 series. For car guys that are hooked on these, no other car comes close, and it’s easy to see why there’s so much love.

BMW has done amazing things with small-ish sedans. Over the years, they’ve made them perform almost like sportscars, and yet they have a real-world usable back seat. BMW can squeeze them even further, making the highly impressive M3 variant if that’s your deal.

So what’s up with the New 3?

Well, let’s just concentrate on what’s in the engine bay. Says, BMW: “The latest engine to be introduced to the 3 Series is an all-new 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engine that records 245hp and 520Nm of torque, but still posts a 49.6mpg combined consumption figure and an emissions figure of 152g/km.”

Hopefully they’ll bring the oil burner to the sates (as they’ve been threatening for a bit here), because that could be a really viable alternative for a lot of customers. Something has to slot in between a VW TDi at one end, and a Mercedes diesel, way up at the other end, money-wise. And on to of that, it’d be a diesel that’d be fun to drive.

Hard to argue with that.
